A good feasibility study does one thing well: it tells you what you actually need to know before committing capital. That means a clearly defined scope, documented assumptions, a rigorous cost estimate, a realistic schedule, and an honest assessment of technical risk. It does not mean a 300-page document that answers every conceivable question regardless of whether those questions affect the investment decision.

Independent assessment matters precisely because feasibility studies are rarely produced without a vested interest in the outcome. In-house teams are motivated to progress the project. Engineering firms engaged on the back of a positive feasibility study have a commercial incentive toward optimism. We are engaged to give an accurate picture — which sometimes means finding things that slow the project down, and saying so clearly.
